Dr. Ramesh joined as a lecturer at Bangalore Medical College & Research Institute and went on to become the principal, professor & HOD of Dept. of Orthopaedics & Physiotherapy there, tirelessly guiding and inspiring the next generation of doctors. Taking the leadership role at a 60-year-old reputed institution was a daunting task indeed, but one that Dr. Ramesh was willing to take head-on. During his tenure, he was responsible for crucial infrastructure development including building waiting rooms for patients, duty & washrooms for staff, students & nurses, Orthotics & Prosthetics facilities, and introducing biometric attendance.

For the students, he oversaw the purchase of important medical equipment like OT table, C-arm, Arthroscope etc. and conducted Cadaveric workshops, Simulation workshops for improving surgical skills CME’s & Suturing skills workshops. He became the president of Bangalore Orthopaedic Society, founded the Common PG Teaching Program for all Teaching Institutions of Bangalore and started the Fellowship in Advanced Orthopaedic Trauma. He persevered to raise awareness to the public with television programmes, writing newspaper articles and giving guest lectures.

An avid cricketer himself, Dr. Ramesh Krishna has played League Cricket for the Karnataka Cricket Association and is part of the Doctors Panel of KCA. He was the Chairman of the Sports Committee at BMCRI and is also credited with starting the Sports Medicine Dept. at the institution with Rs.12.5 crores of funding from the govt.

Dr. Ramesh Krishna’s Achievements at Victoria Hospital

After his commendable stint as principal, professor and HOD of the Department of Orthopaedics & Physiotherapy at Bangalore Medical College & Research Institute, Dr. Ramesh Krishna was appointed as the Medical Superintendent at the prestigious Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru. Under his able leadership, Victoria Hospital came to be known for its clean administration and people-oriented approach. With the comprehensive upgradation & renovation of facilities such as Operation Theatres, old OPD block, medical equipment, jail ward, etc. and the creation of a new OPD block upping the total capacity to 1000 beds, he has not only made the lives of patients better, but also that of the doctors and other medical staff. He has ensured that top-notch security is provided, drugs & equipment inventory is properly maintained and strict OT dress codes are followed at the hospital. Victoria Hospital was one of the first hospitals in the state to start administering vaccines to healthcare workers & doctors back in January 2021. With close co-operation with the govt, he has masterfully implemented many initiatives like Ayushman Bharat Yojana, SAST schemes, registration of the Unique Disability ID, and the Nirbhaya project. Victoria Hospital won the esteemed Kaayakalpa award for its cleanliness under his supervision.
